The crown chakra, Sahasrara, is all about practical spirituality.
Imagine feeling complete and at harmony with yourself and the universe. You understand your uniqueness within the big picture of life. What a fantastic place to be! Well....this is what this seventh chakra is all about.......spirituality, enlightenment and the way to your higher consciousness.
It is located at the crown of your head, or, as some believe, just above the crown of your head........hence its name. It is linked to the pituitary gland........this connects to the central nervous system via the hypothalamus, and produces hormones to communicate to the rest of the endocrine system.
In Sanskrit Sahasrana means 'thousandfold' and is symbolised by the 1000 petalled lotus. It is often referred to as the 'mystical centre'.
Too much energy flowing through sahasrara and you may be overly intellectual, or feel you are a cut above others spiritually or intellectually.
A sluggish chakra and you may find it difficult to think for yourself, be apathetic, be skeptical of anything spiritual and be very materialistic.
Below you can see the specific associations with the Sahasrara:
Colour | White or Violet |
Element | No element |
Animal | No Animal |
Sound | Silence |

Remember...... Lavender is useful for all seven main chakras.
Finally, here are a few quotes I came across which, for me, sum up the sahasrara...
Before enlightenment - chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment - chop wood, carry water.

Not all those who wander are lost.
~J.R.R. Tolkien~
It is only when we silent the blaring sounds of our daily existence that we can finally hear the whispers of truth that life reveals to us, as it stands knocking on the doorsteps of our hearts.
